Kyle is Steve's stepson and has been working on guns with Steve since he was a child. With years of experience under his belt he has a developed a great understanding of firearms both new and old. He completed his very first rifle build earlier this year on his own hunting rifle, a Winchester model 70, .222 that he converted to a .300 win mag. With a barrel banded front sight, nitride finish, and other custom touches, you may see it around the shop when it is on display! Kyle excels at refinishing, polishing, cleanings, safety checks, and problem solving troubled firearms. His skills grow more and more everyday as a gunsmith apprentice.
Shop owner and Master Gunsmith Steve grew up in Anchorage and has been into guns since he was a young boy, building his first gun at the age of 12. After leaving the Marines in 1995 and testing out a few jobs in construction, Steve found his real calling in gunsmithing. For the last 16 years Steve has been an essential part of the professional gunsmithing community earning certifications by the State of Alaska to instruct Hunter Education, Muzzle Loading, and Bow Hunting. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Steve has also received certifications for Instructing Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun classes as well as Metallic Cartridge reloading. He has an excellent reputation in the Anchorage community and beyond. His stellar reputation means his services are always in high demand! His hobbies involve hunting, fishing, occasionally guiding, and working on his sport vehicles.
Established in April of 2007, Alaska Custom Firearms has had its roots firmly planted in Alaska from the start. With all of our staff being raised here in Alaska, it is home to us and we plan on sticking around and doing what we can for our community. We are a veteran & minority woman owned and operated small business who employs veterans, supports many other local small businesses, as well as donate our time and resources to many community programs such as the local ADFG youth rimfire league, Dimond High Schools Riflery Team, JROTC booster clubs, and more. You will often see a flyer for one of these causes on our counter or events board in the shop when you stop by. Feel free to ask us any questions or how you can help support any of these local causes!
